A brief history of how my blog came to be

I was ignoring the blogosphere.  In fact, I wasn’t sure what the blogosphere was. I couldn’t imagine that so many people thought they had something interesting to say, and I didn’t have time to read any.

Toward the end of October, a combination of three things occurred.

  • My grandson said something funny that made me say, “We should be writing these things down,” and….
  • I received two separate emails from friends, one an artist and one a photographer, inviting me to look at their new WordPress blogs, and……
  • LVS Online send a notice that registration for November was open, and two classes on how to write blogs were offered, so……

On October 24, 2008 I began my blog.  It was to be for my family, recording things that happened that would be fun to read about in the years to come.  Since I am a photographer and like to make art, these pursuits would find their way into my posts, and I thought everything would work together seamlessly. I soon realized that the family blog was going to be personal enough that I wanted to limit readership, and that that I wanted to go into way more detail about my art and photography than my family cared about. I became very interested in exploring the nature of creativity, especially as it related to the things I do, and this was not going to fit into my family blog.

On November 15, 2008 I began my second blog.  It is to be for me to explore the place art, design and photography has in my life.  That is an exciting project.  By their very nature drawing, painting, and photography are arts of communication, so I hope others will become interested in having this conversation with me.

Now I know what the blogosphere is.  I’ve taken the time to read some blogs, and I find many that are interesting, even fascinating.  By being open to the creative process, what I thought I knew has turned into something completely different.  I like it when this happens, and that is why I want to explore my art and photography in this new way.  In a blog. In the blogosphere.

Welcome to Three Dog Studio – Making art – every day – my way.

A brief history how my name came to be

I used to operate a drapery workroom.  I also had three Samoyeds who, through some means that I still don’t completely understand, had come to live in our house.  Each one had a spot he or she liked in my workroom, and from there observed my work for over fourteen years and offered approval for everything I did.  They have been gone for a long time, but they are still in my name and in my heart.

    Hi Karol,
I like your humor and your drawings. Pretty clever. Also, I think you have a good eye for photograhy. Keep up the art.

Karol, I am beginning a parallel adventure–I am now half way through the LVS beginners’ blogging course–and I am delighted to have come across blog, which resonates with my own hopes for my newborn Studioblog. Yes, we share a need to “write it down”–but though I have kept a journal for years, I have never had a public place to present myself to new friends or kindred spirit ( who don’t necessarily need to know about private struggles!)

I don’t have a website–do you?–and am trying to think how to make a sort of overview-with-updates of studio work within a blog context. Is this something you have thought about, and if so, what ideas have you come up with?

Thank you for the new directions you are sending my brainstorming. I plan to keep an eye on you! Betsy
